Armaguard is Australia’s largest and most sophisticated currency management and cash logistics business, providing customers with a variety of cash delivery and collection services combined with accurate electronic processing and reporting, maximum security and customer safety.

Armaguard’s operational employees are in daily contact with significant amounts of currency as well as a myriad of potentially dangerous situations.  In ensuring the highest calibre of security and service for its clients and the general public, Armaguard intensively screens all new recruits to ensure their suitability for the role.

Armaguard’s well known brand, size and continued growth mean they recruit a large number of staff each year, attracting thousands of candidates.


Business Challenge/Problem:

Along with rigorous interviewing, background checks and medicals, Armaguard had been using a pen & paper psychometric tool, specifically looking at attitudes towards safety & honesty.  Armaguard places a high-level of importance on these attitudes when recruiting staff due to their strong link to minimising risks in the workplace.  For this reason, the first screening step in the recruitment process was to put candidates through an objective safety & honesty assessment.

While Armaguard were happy with the predictive validity & robustness of their existing testing tools, the fact that the tools were pen & paper-based posed a logistical challenge.  Thousands of candidates were required to visit Armaguard offices each year to complete testing, which of course resulted in thousands of papers to be manually scored and processed.

A significant opportunity to streamline recruitment processes existed if an online tool that met Armaguard’s strict validity & quality requirements could be found.


The Solution:

Onetest introduced Armaguard to the Onetest Work Reliability Scale (OWRS) and the Onetest Work Safety Assessment (OWSA), which, after 2 years of research & development, were available via Onetest’s online psychometric assessment engine.

 
The assessments covered the same basic constructs Armaguard had always assessed for in a robust online format (shown below).

Both assessments include Positive Self Presentation & Consistency validity checks.



Armaguard now had the option of inviting applicants to sit the assessments online from their own home, with scoring achieved automatically online, and with instant online access to dynamic reporting, enabling swift and accurate ranking of candidates according to their own weightings and benchmarks.

After scrutinising the Onetest assessments, the rigorous research and validation process, and the security devices in place to ensure the validity of the remote testing process, Armaguard commenced a 4-month pilot of the new online solution across 50% of its recruitment volume.
 
The Result:

The pilot included:

  • Assessment of 500+ candidates,
  • Regular communication with Onetest,
  • Fine-tuning of benchmarks, and
  • Scientific measurement of progress and results.


Due to the proven success of the solution accurately measuring the risk of candidates in a more streamlined process, Armaguard declared the pilot a success and have commenced a full roll-out of the new solution commencing May 2007.
